The New GOV.KY Has Launched

When we get into a car, we all want to arrive safely – whether it’s to work, school, or home to our families. The National Road Safety Campaign is about choosing smart over reckless in those every day moments:

Slowing down, instead of speeding through
Focusing on the road, not your phone
Designating a driver, not risking drink-driving
Pausing for pedestrians, not cutting them off

Let’s shift the mindset. Let’s choose smart.

National Road Safety Strategy (2023-2038)

The National Road Safety Strategy (2023–2038) is the Cayman Islands Government’s long-term commitment to eliminate road fatalities by 2038.

Led by the Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure, the strategy targets four key areas:

Education – Public awareness campaigns, school outreach, community events
Enforcement – Targeted patrols, DUI operations, speed checkpoints
Engineering – Safer intersections, speed-reducing infrastructure, better signage
Emergency Response – Faster incident reporting, data-driven resource planning

In Year 1, we:

Installed speed-calming measures in high-risk zones
Upgraded school zone signage and road markings
Increased police visibility through 12 targeted enforcement campaigns
Ran public education campaigns on texting, speeding, and seat belt use

But the work continues. Reckless driving still claims lives. That’s why in Year 2, we’re focused on Smart Vs Reckless.
