Cayman Islands Fire Service

What We Do

The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) is dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. We respond to structural and vehicular fires, conduct rescue operations, and provide specialised aerodrome firefighting services.

Our emergency response capabilities include inshore and inland search and rescue, medical assistance, and hazardous materials management. We enforce fire safety standards through inspections and compliance, educate the public on fire prevention, and play a crucial role in hurricane preparedness. Operating from stations in West Bay, George Town, Frank Sound, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman.

Our highly trained firefighters undergo continuous professional development to stay current with the latest techniques and technologies, ensuring effective and efficient emergency response.

Organisation and Functions

The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), led by the Chief Fire Officer under the Ministry of District Administration & Home Affairs, protects residents and visitors across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. CIFS provides domestic firefighting, aerodrome rescue and firefighting (ARFF), and specialist rescue, responding to structure, brush, vehicle, and aircraft incidents on land and at sea.

The Fire Prevention Unit delivers inspections, code compliance, and investigations, while community outreach promotes fire and life safety. CIFS firefighters complete rigorous training—including a comprehensive Trainee Firefighter course spanning domestic and aeronautical disciplines—ensuring a professional, coordinated response from strategically located stations.
